CHISA BIZE
DOMAINE SIMON BIZE
Chisa was born in Tokyo. She started her career as an investment banker and was soon posted in France where she fell in love with wine. Back in Tokyo, Chisa met Patrick Bize while he was visiting his importer. After harvesting at domaine Simon Bize, she decided to move there in 1997.
Patrick and Chisa married and had two children. She attended Anne Claude Leflaive’s biodynamic school and helped the domaine implement organic farming; she also managed the domaine’s exports. Sadly, Patrick passed away prematurely on the first day of harvest in 2013. Chisa has been at the helm of the domaine ever since. She has managed, without losing the domaine’s historical cult following, to transition it to more holistic farming and incorporate natural winemaking practices. Jon Bonné, in The New France, chose Simon Bize as one of six reference standard domaines for the region.
