Chef Matt Horn is a self-taught barbecue prodigy whose culinary journey began in 2016, rapidly establishing him as a legendary figure in the U.S. culinary scene. Known for his distinctive California-style barbecue, Chef Horn opened his flagship restaurant, Horn Barbecue, in Oakland, CA, in October 2020. The restaurant was an immediate success, earning accolades from both local and national media, including Forbes, the New York Times, and Robb Report, and being named one of Eater’s Best New Restaurants. 

In 2021, Chef Horn was recognized as one of Food & Wine’s Best New Chefs in America, and Horn Barbecue secured a coveted Michelin Bib Gourmand designation. The following year, it was nominated for a James Beard Award for Best New Restaurant. Expanding his culinary empire, Chef Horn launched Kowbird in 2022, a specialized chicken concept, with a second location opening in Las Vegas. In 2023, he introduced Matty’s Old Fashioned, offering an elevated dining experience. 

Chef Horn’s prowess in the barbecue world has been acknowledged by prominent publications; the SF Chronicle named him "The Future of Barbecue," and Sunset magazine crowned him the "King of West Coast Barbecue." He is considered one of the most sought-after pitmasters in the country. 

Beyond his restaurant achievements, Chef Horn is also a published author of two books: "Horn Barbecue" and the "Kowbird" cookbook. His work extends beyond the kitchen through his philanthropic efforts and charitable giving. As a member of the Williams Sonoma Chefs Collective, a YETI Chef Ambassador, and a Chef Partner for MadeIn Cookware, Chef Horn’s influence reaches far and wide.
